University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), situated in the west end of London, is one of the largest NHS trusts in the United Kingson and provides first class acute and specialist services. The using of IT in this era has been come in to hospital business. UCLH is one of the hospital that utilize the IT function. It's used to ease the data processing.Kind of MIS used by UCLH
Management Information System is needed by every company. UCLH began working with their managed IT service provider in June 2007, investigating the possible technology solutions. The hospital elected to use the Lombardi TeamWorks business process management system. Management Information System that used in UCLH is Patient Tracking System (PTS).
James Thomas, IT Director of UCLH NHS Foundation Trust explains "The new Patient Tracking System (PTS) not only enable us to better manage our clinical pathaways and resources, but also helps us improve the patient experience by reducing uncertainty in the scheduling of treatments".
Problems that must be faced
Every company, include Hospital, must have problem or challenge in run their system. Similarly, UCLH. They also have some problem that must be solved.
The problems are :
1. Implement a management system to meet government standards
2. Track 500,000 patients annually
3. Model patient treatment pathways
4. Interact with huge amounts of data from a number of existing databases.
Analyzing Problem
The problem above can be analyzed :
1. Implement a management system to meet government standards
Goverment demands every hospital to have standard minimum service for the patient. So, UCLH
needs a good Management Information System to fulfill it. By the existance of PTS, really
expected that it can meet government standards
2. Track 500,000 patients annually
500,000 patients is not a small amount. Every year, To saving the data of the patient and
process it, it must need a very great performance of Management Information System.
3. Model patient treatment pathways
Every model of treatment that given to the patient must make the patient satisfy with the
service treatment.
4. Interact with huge amounts of adta form a number of existing databases
Back to the seconc problem that face by UCLH. 500,000 patient a year is not a small amount.
It need a system that can save the databases of tha patient.
Benefits
The benefits that can be gotten by UCLH by implement MIS are :
1. Able to manage and demonstrate how meeting 18wkRTT (18 weeks)
2. Fewer patient delays
3. Reduction in patient complaints
4. Reduction in data errors
5. Recovery of an additional GBP3 million of fee
One of the level Management that can get information is Administration. It's stated that reduction in data errors caused by patients being entered multiple times on the system.
